Accomplishments
- Played seven-plus seasons in the major leagues appearing in 266 career games with the Detroit Tigers (1962-63), Los Angeles Angels (1964) and Minnesota Twins (1965-69).
- Had a .244 career batting average with five homers, 40 runs and 37 RBIs in the majors.
- Earned a World Series ring with the 1965 Twins.
- Blough, Somerset County, native was among the most versatile athletes to come out of the region.
- Earned 11 varsity letters in three sports at the former Forbes High School.
- A standout in the Johnstown Junior League after playing for Hahn Packing in 1954.
- Batted .420 and was named as a pick-up player for Westmont AC in the 1954 AAABA Tournament and batted .500 in his first of two tournament appearances.
- Signed with the Detroit Tigers in 1956 and made major league debut as a third baseman in 1962.
- Played for Hankyu, Japan, in 1970.
- Had success at the Class AAA level with the Denver Bears, setting career records for hits (516), doubles (101) and sacrifice flies (24) in six seasons.
- In 1960, with Cambria County Sports Hall of Famer Charlie Metro managing the Bears, Kostro led the team with 165 hits, 97 RBIs and a .321 average, as Denver won the American Association’s regular-season championship.
- Also a member of the AAABA Hall of Fame.
