Accomplishments
- Johnstown driver advanced to the major leagues of his sport.
- Finished as the runner-up for the United States Auto Club (USAC) Rookie of the Year honor in 1972.
- Passed his USAC driver’s test in 1972, qualifying him to drive any midget, sprint or championship car in all but the 500-mile races.
- Richland High School graduate had a goal of driving in the Indianapolis 500. Twice was signed to drive cars in the sport’s biggest event though he failed to qualify each time.
- Worked at Bethlehem Steel Johnstown Plant and drove to the state of Indiana regularly to race sprint and midget cars.
- Placed eighth in the 200-mile race in Milwaukee, Wisc., in 1972 while driving a car that did not have a turbo-charged engine.
- Took his USAC 500-mile test at Long Pond, Pa. in June 1974.
- Passed his first phase of the Indy Rookie Test in 1975.
- Died at age 35 in 1976 when the modified stock car he was driving overturned in the first turn of the Reading Fairgrounds Raceway.
