The Cambria County Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2014 includes:

Richland High graduate Leah Hollis, a former NCAA Division I women’s volleyball player at Rutgers University; Ed Johnston, the former Johnstown Jets champion goaltender who went on to a Stanley Cup career as a NHL player and GM-coach; John Kasay Sr., a Greater Johnstown High graduate who played football at the University of Georgia and spent decades on the Bulldogs’ coaching staff, winning a national championship; Randy Mazey, a United High graduate who played baseball at Clemson University before embarking on a 20-plus-year career as a coach at the NCAA Division I level including his current position as West Virginia University head coach; and Tom McGough, a Greater Johnstown High graduate selected by the Cleveland Indians in the Major League Baseball draft as a 17-year-old en route to a successful career in the minor leagues and two call ups to the majors.

The five new members officially will be inducted during a July 12 banquet at the Pasquerilla Conference Center.
The Cambria County Sports Hall of Fame also will recognize several teams:

  • The 30th anniversary of Richland High School’s 1984 state volleyball championship and the Rams’ successful defense of that PIAA crown in 1985.

  • The 20th anniversary of Bishop McCort High School hockey team’s 1994 state championship as well as four other state titles the Crushers won in the 1990s.

  • The 20th anniversary of the state runner-up 1994 Forest Hills football team.

  • The Hall will honor the All American Amateur Baseball Association Tournament, which will hold its 70th tournament in August at Point Stadium and surrounding fields.

  • Class of 1990 inductee Carlton Haselrig officially will have football added to his hall of fame title. Haselrig had been inducted as a six-time national champion wrestler at UPJ. He later attained All Pro status as an NFL offensive lineman with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
