Chris Stewart didn’t know much about working on the training staff of a hockey team when he first joined the Johnstown Chiefs in the East Coast Hockey League.
Stewart was a quick learner. He used his time in Johnstown to earn a promotion to the American Hockey League and eventually embarked on a National Hockey League career that has included four Stanley Cup championship seasons — and counting.
The head athletic trainer of the Pittsburgh Penguins will be inducted into the Cambria County Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2018.
Stewart said he alway has believed in the team concept whether he was working on the staff of the NCAA Division II powerhouse IUP football team during his time at the PSAC school where he earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees, or with the Chiefs, Carolina Hurricanes or Penguins.
