Accomplishments

Bishop McCort Catholic High School then-sophomore wrestler Keegan Bassett won the 45-kilogram 17-Under men’s freestyle World Championship in Athens, Greece, on Aug. 3, 2025.

Keegan Bassett pinned Iran’s Parsa Tahmasbi in the 45-kilogram title bout. The fall earned Team USA 25 points in a tight battle with Iran in the team standings.

The standout methodically advanced through the bracket in Athens, with a perfect 4-0 record over two days. He defeated Shivam Shivam, of India, 8-5 in the Round of 16, and then topped Bakdaulet Agabek, of Kazakhstan, by technical fall, 15-4 in the quarterfinal round. In the semifinals, Bassett won 6-2 over Ibragim Veliullov, of United World Wrestling.

He won the 45 kg title in the 2025 U-17 Freestyle World Team Trials to earn his spot in the World Championships.

During his sophomore season at Bishop McCort Catholic High School, Keegan Bassett struck PIAA Class 2A gold, winning a state championship at 121 pounds to cap his 2025-26 campaign.

In addition to his success in 2026 and 2025, Keegan Bassett had a banner year on the mat in 2024.

He won the 2024 U-15 Pan American Championships, dominating in both styles, winning gold in Greco-Roman and Freestyle.

Keegan Bassett also won the 2024 U.S. Open in the 15-U Greco-Roman event. That same year, he was a U-16 Fargo Nationals champion in Freestyle at 94 pounds.
