Accomplishments

  • Prominent figure on the Johnstown sports scene for more than 40 years.
  • Compiled an outstanding record of public service to sports and recreation.
  • Sports editor at the Johnstown Tribune for 39 years from 1919 through 1958.
  • Named executive sports editor when Johnstown’s two daily papers, the Democrat and Tribune, became The Tribune-Democrat in 1952.
  • Served as chairman of the Municipal Recreation Commission.
  • President of the Johnstown Johnnies and vice president of the Middle Atlantic League.
  • Served as treasurer of the All-American Amateur Baseball Association and president of the Johnstown Oldtimers Association.
  • Helped sway the Brooklyn Dodgers to put a minor league team in Johnstown after the city had lost its Johnnies in 1939.
  • Worked with former Tribune Publisher Walter Krebs to bring the AAABA Tournament to Johnstown in the 1940s, beginning a decades long tradition.
