Accomplishments

All-State player in basketball at East Conemaugh High School and an All-American in football at Michigan State.
Quarterback led Michigan State to undefeated season and national championship in 1952, and followed up by helping the Spartans earn a share of the 1953 Big Ten title as well as a Rose Bowl victory over UCLA.
An All-American catcher in baseball at Michigan State.
Named Most Valuable Player of the 1954 NCAA baseball championship tournament, which is now known as the College World Series.
Played professional baseball and advanced to the major leagues with the Detroit Tigers.
Minor league baseball career started with a home run in his first at-bat with Wilkes-Barre in Class A. Later hit a grand slam in his first Class AAA at-bat with Buffalo.
Played pro football with the Boston Patriots in the American Football League for six seasons as a punter and quarterback.
Considered one of the top punters in early Patriots’ history, Yewcic was named to the team’s all-1960s squad.
Member of AAABA Hall of Fame.
Conemaugh Valley High School football field named in his honor.
