Judy Heinze will begin her 66th season as a high school girls and boys volleyball official in the fall of 2024.
At age 86, Heinze was a pioneer of women’s sports officiating and a champion of girls scholastic sports overall. Considered an institution in the sport throughout the state, Heinze helped start the Central Western Volleyball Chapter of officials. The organization has roots extending to 1971 — at a time when girls sports began to compete in the PIAA.
Heinze and her son, Dana Heinze (Class of 2018) form the first mother-son combination to enter the Cambria County Sports Hall of Fame. Dana Heinze is a former Pittsburgh Penguins and Tampa Bay Lightning equipment manager who was part of four Stanley Cup championship winning teams — three in Pittsburgh.
