Accomplishments

  • Richland High School graduate (Class of 1999) who was a five-time high school All-American and eight-time PIAA All-State selection.
  • Brutz Stoddard was an eight-time PIAA District 6 champion and record-holder in the 50- and 100-meter freestyle events.
  • PIAA champion in the 50-meter freestyle event in 1998, and PIAA state runner-up in 50 freestyle and 100-meter butterfly events in 1999.
  • Named a U.S. Army Scholar-Athlete in 1999.
  • Earned multiple YMCA state and district championships, and was a two-time, fourth-place finisher at the 1997 and 1998 YMCA Nationals in the 50 freestyle event.
  • Brutz Stoddard was a Senior National qualifier.
  • College career included a full scholarship to NCAA Division I Michigan State University, where she  was a Big Ten Conference finalist and two-year letterwinner.
  • After a medical redshirt, she transferred to NCAA Division II Clarion University, but was involved in a serious automobile accident, broke her hip and was told she may never walk again let alone swim.
  • Brutz Stoddard proved doubters wrong and helped Clarion win the PSAC Championship.
  • She ended her swimming career with six NCAA All-American honors.
  • Currently a Detroit resident, she coaches at Detroit Central Catholic, one of the top men’s swimming and diving programs in Michigan.
  • Brutz Stoddard has coached 39 All-Americans, more than 90 all-state athletes, 13 state champions and one Olympic Trials Qualifier.
