Accomplishments
- Played four seasons in the National Football League and won a NFL World Championship with the Los Angeles Rams in 1951.
- 5-foot-7, 171-pound running back overcame questions about his size to play running back in the NFL and at the University of Nevada.
- Averaged 6.2 yards a carry with the Los Angeles Rams from 1949 to 1951 and spent a season with the Baltimore Colts in 1953.
- Played in the Canadian Football League.
- Coached on staffs of the Oakland Raiders (1960-62) and CFL’s Toronto Argonauts (1957).
- Three-sport star at Conemaugh Township High School.
- Attended the University of Pittsburgh and played halfback in 1943 before he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
- Enrolled at Nevada after his discharge from the service. The Wolf Pack went 25-6 with a 12-0 home record during his time in Nevada.
- Led the nation in receiving yardage and touchdown catches at Nevada in 1946.
- Named to the University of Nevada Sports Hall of Fame and Nevada’s Team of the Century in 1999.
- Drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1947. Traded to Los Angeles, an eventual NFL championship team.
