Accomplishments
- University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown champion’s historic NCAA wrestling career included six national titles – three apiece in Division I and Division II.
- His success led to a change known informally as the “Haselrig rule” prohibiting Division II wrestlers from competing in the Division I tournament.
- Selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 12th round of the 1989 NFL Draft even though he never played college football.
- Advanced from the Steelers practice squad to status as an All-Pro offensive guard in 1992.
- Played four seasons with the Steelers and one with the New York Jets.
- Compiled a 143-2-1 career record with a .979 winning percentage as a Pitt-Johnstown wrestler.
- Went 15-0 in NCAA Division I Tournament competition, and he never lost or tied against a Division II opponent.
- Had a NCAA record 122 consecutive matches without a loss.
- Named to the NCAA 75th Anniversary Wrestling Team in 2005.
- At Johnstown High, won a Pennsylvania Class AAA state wrestling title even though the Trojans didn’t have a wrestling program.
- Played in the Arena Football League and eventually made the transition to Mixed Martial Arts.
- Inducted into the Pitt-Johnstown Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2009.
- Inducted into the NCAA Division II Wrestling Hall of Fame Class of 2014.
- Originally inducted into the Cambria County Sports Hall of Fame for his wrestling achievements in 1990, Haselrig again was inducted into the Hall for his football accomplishments in the Class of 2014.
