Big Turnout , 7 Inductees Help Cambria County Sports Hall of Fame Reconnect with War Memorial Roots

The Cambria County Sports Hall of Fame welcomed a crowd of 350 people to 1st Summit Arena on July 13 as the seven-member Class of 2024 was inducted.

The hall of fame ceremony returned to the War Memorial for the first time since 1990 and revisited the site of the inaugural Cambria County Sports Hall of Fame banquet in 1965. The first 10 events were held at what then was known as Cambria County War Memorial Arena.

The Class of 2024 included: Mike Garbinski (posthumously), football; Robert Gardill Sr., administrator/organizer; Joe Greenwood, football; Judy Heinze, girls volleyball official; Reg Kent, hockey; Joe Shorto, golf; and Randy Wilson, cross country/track and field.

Tim Rigby emceed the 22nd hall of fame banquet. CCSHOF Committee members in attendance included Chairman Bruce Haselrig, Alan Cashaw, Kristen Hudak,  Cheryl Litwalk and Mike Mastovich. Cambria County Commissioner Tom Chernisky, a member of the committee, was at a conference in Florida but made a video presentation.
